Have you tossed around the idea of your own backyard chickens but don't feel like you are totally ready for the commitment? You get the freshest eggs, reduce bugs and fertilize your lawn! But you also have to build or buy a coop (which can get expensive). You have to find and buy chickens (Do you want to raise them from chicks with all that involves or do you want to buy ready to lay pullets or adult hens that are already laying?) Plus, there's feed all year, even in the winter when they slow way down on the egg producing.
Chicken Lender is perfect for folks who are renting, or just aren't ready to commit until you're sure that chickens are a fit for you. Do you have a garden that you'd like to have cleaned up in the fall? Why not get eggs as a thank you? Chicken Lender is great for all of those things.
Here’s how it works:
You get 2 laying hens and a movable coop that includes an
enclosed pen. This protects your hens from predators and also allows you to
move them all over your yard to reduce bugs and help fertilize your soil. Your
coop will be set up with a water dispenser and feeder. We will provide as much
locally-milled, drug and GMO-free feed as you will need while they are with
you. We will deliver the entire set up to your home and help you understand
their needs and care.
The cost:
Because this is our introductory year we have based our
prices substantially lower than the companies who are doing this in other
areas.
$125 covers the whole set up for one month. If you’d like to
keep them longer, you pay $50 for each additional month. We require a $50
deposit when you place your order and take payment in full at time of delivery.
You will receive your deposit back on the day we return to pick up your
chickens.
Delivery within Berkeley County WV is free of charge. Within
25 miles of Hedgesville, WV there will be a $15 fee. For delivery between 25-50 miles from
Hedgesville a fee of $30 will be added.
If you decide that you want to keep the chickens and coop as
your own - half of what you have already paid goes toward the purchase. The
cost to purchase the birds, coop and supplies is $300.
I will bring a
contract for you to sign the day of delivery but the basics are this:
You may not move the coop to another location without our
consent.
There is a replacement fee of $20 per chicken in the event
you have a loss while they are in your care. We are confident in the health of
our birds, but if there is no fault on your part for their death, you will not
be held liable.
If you chose to let the chickens out to free-range you are
responsible for their safety. Think dogs, cats, traffic and so on. If your home
has a fenced in yard and you feel they will be safe during day light hours,
then go for it! They must be put away at night.
You may only feed our feed and non-processed table scraps.
It is very important to us that our birds not be given any conventional feed
that may contain genetically engineered seeds or drugs.
That’s it. Chickens are wonderful and I’m sure you will
enjoy having them! Please be in touch to set up your delivery.
